What is Lifeline and how does it work? |
|
Lifeline is an emergency telephone response system which allows for the user to be able to directly connect with the communications center in an emergency situation via telephone. The Lifeline unit consists of a base unit which connects to the phone line and also a personal help button that is wore around the user’s neck. Anytime a user has an emergency situation, they are able to push their personal help button around their neck which will automatically send a signal to the communications center. Once the signal is received by a dispatcher at the communications center the user will automatically have direct contact with the dispatcher via the speaker on the base unit. As long as the user is in hearing range of the base unit the dispatcher will be able to communicate with the user and send help immediately. If there is no answerwhen the call is received by the communications center, a responder will be notified. If none of the responders are available, an ambulance will then be sent to ensure the user is not injured or needing assistance. Lifeline is available to eligible people, 60 years of age and older. If under the age of 60, Chenango County has ten units that are available for a monthly fee.
